When the veil grows thin and the breath of autumn hangs heavy with memory, we gather at The Old Smithy to honour our ancestors and the spirits who walk unseen.
This is the Silent Supper, the ancient Dumb Supper of Samhain — a meal shared in reverent stillness between the living and the dead. Each place at the table is set for two worlds: one of warmth and breath, the other of whisper and shadow. In silence, we listen. In stillness, we remember.
Before the feast, we shall climb the stairs to weave an Ancestor Altar — a sacred threshold of candle, smoke, and offering. Bring with you a token, a photo, a name written on paper, something to call your beloved dead close. Together, we’ll light the way for them to join us as the wheel turns once more.
Then, below, we’ll break bread in quiet magic and simple comfort:
🥔 Jacket potatoes, steaming and soft
🥗 Coleslaw !!!!
🌶 Three-bean chilli to warm the bones and the spirit
No words are needed, only presence. Let the hush of candlelight hold us, and the old year slip gently into the arms of the new.
✨ Bring a token or photo for the altar if you wish. Come cloaked in warmth, wonder, and reverence — the ancestors are listening.
