One of the UK’s oldest and boldest brass bands is set to bring festive cheer to Stalybridge this December with a sparkling seasonal performance.
The Best of Christmas Brass will take place on Saturday 6 December 2025 at Stalybridge Civic Hall, with doors opening at 7:00pm and the show starting at 7:30pm.
Founded in 1809, Stalybridge Old Band is widely recognised as the first all-brass band in Britain. Originally formed by local musicians Thomas Avison and Billy Hall, the band began with just eight members and quickly became a cornerstone of the town’s cultural life. By the 1840s, it had transitioned to an all-brass ensemble, pioneering a sound that would shape British musical tradition.
Hosted in the beautifully decorated Victoria Market Hall, the event promises an evening of festive favourites, toe-tapping carols, and glorious brass classics performed by the renowned Stalybridge Old Band.
This event is part of the programme of cultural activity at Stalybridge Civic Hall, which has become a vibrant space for live music, comedy, theatre, and seasonal celebrations drawing audiences from across Tameside and beyond.
