Join the St. Pete LWV and Common Cause Florida for a Redistricting Day of Action! Leagues across Florida will come together on October 4 to take action to stop mid-decade redistricting.
The Florida state legislature is contemplating an unprecedented effort to redraw the state's Congressional maps in the middle of the decade.
Floridians across the political spectrum have clearly said that they don't want partisan gerrymandering: 63% of Florida voters approved the Fair Districts Amendments 2010, prohibiting partisan gerrymandering in our state. But some state leaders are proposing to create a new voting map for Florida as part of a larger, national effort to secure a partisan advantage in Congress.
This affects us all. Mid-decade redistricting is a waste of taxpayer dollars and an attack on voters. Constant map changes cause voter confusion and weaken trust, and more extreme gerrymandered districts mean elected representatives are less accountable to the people they serve.
On Saturday, October 4, please join LWVSPA Board Member and Common Cause Florida Executive Director Amy Keith to “Sip & Strategize.”
