State Representative Marty Joe Murray invites every community member to the upcoming Utility Assistance Fair. This event is designed to connect families with critical resources and assistance programs to help manage rising utility costs and prevent disconnections that threaten the health and safety of households.
“Far too many Missouri families are struggling under the weight of rising utility costs, and the burden has only grown heavier with recent decisions from major providers. St. Louis City Water is planning to lift its moratorium on September 1st, 2025, and Ameren has continued disconnections as of August 5th, 2025.” Stated Murray, D-St. Louis.
“This shift is leaving survivors of hardship facing even greater insecurity. While Ameren has contributed $4 million toward bill relief, the reality is that many households are still forced to make impossible choices between keeping the lights on and meeting other basic needs.
Organizations invited include the Missouri Department of Social Services Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), Ameren Electric, Metropolitan Sewer District, Spire Gas, Heat Up/Cool Down St. Louis, Urban League, and Employment Connections. All of which will provide on-site support, applications for assistance, payment plan information, and direct connections to emergency relief programs and wraparound community services.
Rep. Murray continued, “This Utility Assistance Fair is designed to bring together resources across all utilities to ensure that no family is left in the dark or without water in their homes. In a civilized society with advanced economies, utilities are a basic human right”.
