About the event

St. Nicholas
OCTOBER 2-4 7:30PM SUNDAY OCTOBER 5 2:00PM

The Midnight Company presents ST.NICHOLAS by Conor McPherson, directed by Bradley Rohlf, October 2-5 at The Greenfinch Theatre and Dive Bar, 2525 S. Jefferson, 63104.
Performances will be Thursday/Friday/Saturday 7:30pm and Sunday October 5 for a 2pm Matinee. Tickets are $20. On Sale at GreenfinchSTL.com/tickets.

In ST. NICHOLAS, a jaded, cynical, aging theatre critic tells his story; how he fell for a beautiful young actress, and in pursuing her, met a group of modern-day vampires who offered him eternal life - his part of the bargain - to help feed their bloodlust.
The play explores themes of obsession, desire and the allure of immortality, told with dark humor and supernatural insight.
Is it a drunken lie? A tantalizing fairy tale? His own version of a higher truth? Or an endless
confession amidst a self-imposed purgatory?

The theatre critic role will be performed by Joe Hanrahan, The Midnight Company’s Artistic Director. This will be the 4th time Hanrahan will have presented ST. NICHOLAS - he’s done it at McGurks Irish Pub in Soulard, in the Wine Room of the late great Herbies in the CWE, and at HH Studio, an acting studio in Maplewood once ran by Carrie Houk and Briah Hohlfeld.

St. Louis critics said of his previous ST. NICHOLAS productions:
“Hanrahan's skillful interpretation compels us to lean in and listen to his tale. Through inflection, movement and direct invitation, he lures us in, then wanders, pontificates and weaves this strangely satisfying and textured story”… “a spectacular character study with an intriguing story to tell”…”Joe Hanrahan is a mesmerizing, loquacious actor. In the grand tradition of a long line of gifted Irish storytellers, he can weave a fascinating yarn”…”compelling and very funny”…
“an unconventional and invigorating evening of theatre.”

Hanrahan’s Midnight Company has been producing theatre in St. Louis for over 25 years. (For a complete history of Midnight’s work, visit MidnightCompany.com.) In the past year, Joe has acted with The Black Rep in COCONUT CAKE, performed in the cast of Midnight’s PRIDE AND JOY, wrote/directed a new Cabaret/Theatre piece about Natalie Cole THIS WILL BE, and Midnight has continued its sold-out run, now in its 3rd year at The Blue Strawberry, of
JUST ONE LOOK, written/directed by Hanrahan, with Kelly Howe as Linda Ronstadt. And a 2020 Metro Theatre production, GHOST, with Joe in the cast, is now streaming to schools. He’s received several St. Louis Theatre Circle Awards, for writing and acting, and was recently honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

In addition to performing ST. NICHOLAS several times, Joe has also presented McPherson’s
THE GOOD THIEF twice. Conor McPherson is the author (and director) of several significant plays, mostly Irish, most which he directed in their UK and Broadway runs, and many infused with supernatural elements. His classic, THE WEIR, set in a pub where a group of people tell ghost stories, just finished a rapturously reviewed run at The Irish Repertory Theatre in New York City. And his collaborative work with Bob Dylan, GIRL FROM THE NORTH COUNTRY, continues to play at this time at The Old Vic in London, closing August 23.

Bradley Rohlf will direct ST. NICHOLAS. Bradley (along with his partner, Colin Healy) own and operate Greenfinch Theatre and Dive Bar, and Bradley (and Colin) have provided musical backing to several Midnight Cabaret/Theatre shows. He is the Managing Director of Fly North Theatricals, a co-host of Overarching, and co-owner of Greenfinch Theater & Dive. Bradley is a multi-hyphenate theater artist and musician. He was the drummer for local band Finlay Fields, and appears on their releases "What Songs Cannot Repay" (2010), and "From A to B" (2011). As a songwriter and recording artist, he has released two EPs under the moniker Another White Suburbanite, "AWS" (2011), and "Counter Culture" (2012).
He began performing in shows across the STL metro region in 2013, and garnered a Best Performance Award nomination from Arts For Life for his portrayal of Mr. Bungee in "A New Brain" with Hawthorne Players in 2019.
He is a co-founder of Fly North Theatricals, working in multiple production capacities on their shows. Directing credits include FNT's production of "Big Machine" (2024 St. Lou Fringe Headline Act), and “Assassins” (2022) for which he was awarded “Outstanding Director of A Musical” by the St. Louis Theater Circle.
