In this workshop, participants will learn how to work with the beautifully versatile willow plant! These cultivated varieties are grown specifically for basketry and will amaze the first-time user with their pliability, texture and color.
We begin the project by learning how to make a "follow-through" base hoop. This is also the foundational hoop that can be expanded into a beautiful wreath! Once our hoops are secure, we will begin inserting our rods to create the tension and proceed to fill the tray. Finally, participants will choose to leave the tray edges raw or learn to create a trim with a 3 rod wale weave.
Please note that there is some hand strength involved. This may not be the best project for someone with arthritis or other challenging hand stiffness or pain.
The fee for this workshop reflects the current cost of purchasing cultivated, hand-harvested basketry willow.
All willow + snacks, coffee & tea provided
