Soulful Stories Presents: Kicks in the Sky

Join us for a vibrant and imaginative edition of Soulful Stories as we kick off the school year with Kicks in the Sky by C.G. Esperanza! This colorful and creative picture book transforms everyday city scenes into a magical adventure through the eyes of children and their beloved sneakers.
In this heartwarming tale, sneakers dangling from telephone wires become more than just urban art—they’re the gateway to something extraordinary. When a few special pairs fall from the sky, local kids slip them on and discover they’ve been given magical abilities—from gliding across basketball courts to breaking out into dance and skating with ease. As the children celebrate their newfound powers, the whole community begins to wonder: where did these kicks come from?
During this special Soulful Stories event, families will enjoy an engaging storytime, take part in a themed craft activity inspired by the book, and explore the joy, creativity, and community spirit that leap off every page. Each child will receive a free copy of the book, and parents/guardians will be provided with a literacy resource guide to help extend learning and meaningful conversations at home.
This event is free and open to the public. All ages are welcome—especially young readers in grades PreK–5th and their families!
