Saturday, December 20, 2025
10:30 am - 2:30 pm
MAC Art Studio
Cost: $120 or $105 for MAC members
Greetings, friends and family,
Please join us for an introduction to Coastal Salish Formline and drum-making. This class will be a one day class.
Phase 1 – Introduction to Coastal Salish Formline:
You will learn the basic fundamentals of Salish Formline art, including its origins, meaning, and why it is used.
Phase 2 – Drum Making:
You will create a 12” deer hide drum with a wooden frame and your own drumstick. Once the drum is dry, we will paint a Coastal Salish design on it.
In Indigenous culture, one of the first things we learn to make is something to give as a gift to a loved one or someone we respect. After these classes, it is our responsibility to take what we have learned and share it with others.
We look forward to seeing you at our workshops. Siokwil (Thank you)
Titus Capoeman
About the Artist: Titus Capoeman is an aspiring and upcoming artist and canoe maker from the Quinault Indian Nation. He focuses on the spiritual and storytelling aspects of Quinault heritage through a combination of symbolism, traditional carving, and Coastal Salish formline art. His artwork has been utilized by the Quinault Indian Nation schools, museums, tribal offices, and even our state’s and country’s capitals in Olympia and Washington, D.C. Titus Capoeman’s dream is to keep his father’s legacy alive. His father was Randy Capoeman, a Quinault tribal carver and artist; he is the reason why Titus creates art today. Out of the handful of artists in the Quinault Nation, each of them carries a piece of Randy’s fundamentals in their art. He is what made it possible for them all to make a living and understand the importance of being a tribal artist. Titus Capoeman is a Marine Corps veteran and is now doing artwork full-time while being a dedicated dad.
At the MAC, our hands-on art workshops are designed to ignite creativity and help participants develop new artistic skills. Led by professional artists, each workshop caters to both beginners and experienced artists alike. Discover your creative potential and craft something uniquely your own.
