About the event

Flint Street Nativity Auditions
🫅The Flint Street Nativity 👼

Woolton Drama Group presents….

The Flint Street Nativity!

Come and join Woolton Drama Group for their most childish of Christmas entertainment yet!

We'll be auditioning for all roles in the scouse Christmas comedy classic, Flint Street Nativity!

We're looking for divas, bullies, and space cadets - everyone playing 7 years old - and all welcome! Some singing will be required of most cast (7 year old Christmas carol level, we're not looking for the next Michael Buble!) so we would love to hear you sing! Logistically, this will be difficult to do on the audition night so it would help the night run more smoothly if you could send a quick video of you singing one verse and a chorus of a Christmas carol (e.g. Away in a Manger, One in Royal David City, We Three Kings, While Shepherds Watch their Flocks) to Z2VvcmdpbmEgISBhbnd5bCB8IGdtYWlsICEgY29t or WhatsApp it over to 07786253445 before the audition on Monday 1st September.

Whether you've been in more plays than you can remember, haven't been involved in a long time, or just want to give it a crack for the first time - come and join the fun!

All ages welcome!

Auditions are 8pm on Monday 1st September at St Hilda's, Hunts Cross, L25 0NJ

No preparation or prior experience required. Those wanting to help with backstage/costumes/props/sets please attend the audition date to sign up or message the above email / WhatsApp to let us know.

Being cast in the production will mean the paying of membership subs to WDG - £30 (or £15 subsidised).

Rehearsals will be every Monday up to performance week at St Hilda's, 8-10pm. Closer to performance, we may add extra Thursday rehearsals as well (TBC).

Show performance dates: 11th to 13th December. You will need to be available for all performances.

Character summaries (All parts also play their same-gender parents)

Mary

Practically perfect in every way, Mary knows all her lines (and everyone else's!). Keen to do her mother, who is head of the PTA, proud and follow all the rules to the letter Mary is well rehearsed and won't let anything Angel Gabriel does or says sidetrack her. Also plays Mary's mum

Gabriel

Angel Gabriel wants to be Mary and the fact that Jenny Bennett is Mary isn't going to stop her. Leader of her own little gang of girls who dare not cross her, she is equal parts Regina George and Vito Corleone. Also plays Gabriel's mum, a young mum trying to be nice to the other parents. Dressed more for a night out than a school nativity.

Narrator

The Narrator takes his job very seriously and is going to do his best to know all of his words to impress his dad.

Innkeeper

The Innkeeper is the boy in class the other children are a little afraid of. Sometimes uses dark silence to bend the children to his will, he had an endearing crush on Mary. Also plays Innkeeper's dad who is more interested in networking than how his son did.

Star

The hyperactive Star is excited to be playing a star as he loves everything about space. His Uncle Ted works for NASA and if you speak to Star for more than 10 seconds you will hear about it.

Ass

A little bit scruffy but with a genuine heart, Ass works to cheer everyone up. A kid from the special unit he doesn't completely fit in with the class but sees the positives in every situation, including how wearing a donkey's head means you can say all sorts of rude words like "poo" and no-one even knows!

Herod

King Herod would much rather be playing "A Question of Sport" than in a nativity. Not one to get too involved in other things going on around him, he just wants to play an imaginary version of his favourite TV quiz than talking to the other children.

Wise Frankincense

Wise Frankincense has a lisp and is acutely aware of it. Why do so many words have the letter "s" in them? Despite having special speech lessons he still can't say it. He doesn't want to sound like one of the kids from the special unit - his dad would be so disappointed.

Shepherd

Straight talking, sometimes brutally honest, Shepherd says it as she sees it. Daughter of a farmer, Shepherd has no time for worrying about upsetting people and will tell them what they need to know in a factual, monotone announcement.

Wise Gold

One of Angel Gabriel's minions, Wise Gold's main aim is to get through the nativity at Gabriel's side, ideally being her best friend. Regretfully, this may mean not being allowed to talk to Angel and helping with plans to sabotage Mary.

Angel

Angel has a hard job balancing keeping Angel Gabriel happy and doing her family proud - by allowing them to show off her costume. Constantly walking on eggshells so as not to rock the boat with Gabriel, Angel just wants everyone to get on. Also plays Angel's mum, a proud woman who keenly shows off her own superior mince pies after the nativity.
