About the event

The Comeback: A Conversation on How SC Democrats Can Fight and Win Again
Join us at the Spartanburg Community College Downtown Campus Theater at 220 East Kennedy Street on September 8 as we hear from a panel of elected officials and strategists from around the state on how we can strengthen our party. The remainder of our 2025 meetings will be held at this location.

What is happening inside the State House and on the ground that has put a once relevant party on the outside and how do we fix it?

As attention turns to 2026, two Democratic House members and two longtime donors and advisors are offering firsthand accounts of what’s happening at the State House, the legal landscape, and what it takes to win competitive seats.

Representative Heather Bauer Representative Kambrell Garvin Brady Quirk-Garvan Chris Kenney

INSIDE THE DOME: A VIEW FROM INSIDE THE STATE HOUSE State Rep. Heather Bauer (HD75) - Heather Bauer is the Representative for House District 75 in Richland County. In 2022, Bauer was the only Democrat to flip a seat in the State legislature by defeating a 10-year Republican incumbent. In 2024, Bauer won re-election by a larger margin against the same former incumbent. Bauer serves on the State House Committee, the Agriculture and Natural Resources committee, and is 1st Vice Chair, Operations and Management Committee.

HOW WE LEAD AGAIN: HOW SC DEMOCRATS CAN LEAD AS AN OPPOSITION PARTY State Rep. Kambrell Garvin (HD77) - Kambrell Garvin is an attorney in Columbia and has been a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives since 2018, representing House District 77. A former public school teacher, Garvin has fought to expand Medicaid, reform our public education system, ease the burden of student loan debt, and bring businesses to the Midlands. He serves on the Education and Public Works committee and Government Efficiency and Legislative Oversight committee.

HOW WE TURNED CHARLESTON BLUE Brady Quirk-Garvan is a Democratic consultant and was Chair of the Charleston County Democratic Party from 2014-2019. Under his leadership, Charleston County flipped 6 seats from Republican to Democrat, and fundraised record-breaking amounts for voter contact and party support. In addition to many local and state-wide races, Quirk-Garvan was a part of Obama 2008 and Biden 2020 in South Carolina.

MODERATOR Chris Kenney is a lawyer in Columbia who has worked for, volunteered on, and donated to dozens of Democratic campaigns. He has litigated gerrymandering, election law, and campaign finance cases and was a Bauer advisor in 2022 and 2024.
