Sips And Small Bites Cooking Class With Chef Lymaris Ortiz

Puerto Rican cuisine is more than food; it’s identity. It’s how the island remembers its past, celebrates its present, and welcomes the future — one bite and sip at a time. Join Chef Lymaris during Nibble Kitchen's" Sips and Small Bites" cooking series as she shares the food that identifies her with her heritage and some of the traditional bites that are served in a Puerto Rican party. Chef Lymaris will share with you some of the most common snacks served in a party, like mofongo, which is one of the Island's most iconic dishes. Alcapurrias, which is a beloved traditional snack, a fritter made with green banana and yautia, filled with a savory meat mixture. Puerto Rican antipasto, which is an adaptation to an international dish, but with a unique flavor profile. Then for the sweet tooth, we will be doing one of the most famous pastries in the Island quesitos. Deliciousness of crunchy puff pastry stuffed with a sweet cheese filling.

No Puerto Rican culinary experience is complete without sipping on its iconic drinks. In order to enjoy all the delicious snacks/bites, we will be making piña colada, which is a cultural emblem, embodying the laid-back, beachside essence of Puerto Rico. We will also be enjoying mojito, while Cuban in origin, has found a warm home in Puerto Rico’s bars and homes. This drink mirrors the island’s emphasis on fresh, bold flavors.

Finally, as the holiday season is upon us, we will be making coquito, because no Holiday is complete without coquito! This creamy coconut drink is a staple in Puerto Rico, and each family has its own version. Chef Lymaris is happy to share her family tradition with you!
