Ira Khonen Temple
Ira Khonen Temple in concert - featuring Zoë Aqua (violin) and Raffi Boden (cello) Album release tour for my debut album Strange Tongue - Mistame Loshn. This is an exuberant and irreverent entanglement with Yiddish protest music, love songs, and anthems. It’s queer, trans antifolk music that is informed by klezmer and Romanian dance. It’s totally bilingual and an amazing gateway into a defiant tradition of survival and solidarity. Raucous and intimate in turns, this music makes as much space for joy as it does for grief. It's what I need right now and it might be what you need too.
Ira Khonen Temple is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter and bandleader. Working as an embedded cultural organizer, they bring multi-rooted Jewish traditions into organizing spaces as a mobilizing tool. Ira currently plays accordion at Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club and at simchas in the tri-state area. They have music directed productions including Indecent at the Weston Playhouse, Great Small Works’ Muntergang and Other Cheerful Downfalls, the Aftselakhis Spectacle Committee Purimshpil, and Zoe Beloff’s Days of the Commune. Ira is a founder of the radical-traditional Yiddish music group Tsibele.
