In 2020, Greg experienced a rupture of the portal vein, which resulted in a 7mm blood clot and left lasting scar tissue on his liver. His ultimate prognosis indicates that he will need a liver transplant.
Since the incident, Greg's immune and muscular systems have significantly weakened, rendering him unable to work. He frequently requires hospital and ICU visits, both for scheduled treatments and urgent care. His medical needs include paracentesis (draining fluid buildup in the abdomen), pain management, cognitive support, and ongoing preparation for a transplant. Unfortunately, each unplanned hospital visit hinders his recovery and accelerates the progression of his disease.
Greg has sought every available form of assistance, including disability benefits for over two years, but the financial burden continues to grow. Sara has worked hard to keep the household stable, but the upcoming transplant and recovery expenses are far beyond their means.
The medical team’s primary plan is a living donor transplant. After the surgery, Greg will likely spend up to 15 days in the ICU, followed by at least a year away from work due to strict recovery protocols and the need for ongoing medications.
Let's come together and help our friends through this journey.
