Suburban gardens are carved with care and often resourcefully constructed from the found objects collected by migrant families. Transforming leftover wood into sculptural forms, you’ll learn to tap into your material intuition and use fast-setting plaster bandages to breathe new life into these discarded materials. Taking inspiration from suburban front yard arrangements, make your own figurative or abstract sculptures to form a sculpture garden landscape which will become part of the artist's installation.
This workshop is an invitation to comb through the familiar imagery of Western Sydney suburban life through a hands-on exploration of plaster sculpting using wire armatures.
Preserved by a garden sculpture workshop with Bonnie Huang is part of RELIC public program and presented in partnership with Parramatta Artists Studios.
