About this Event

Hosted by Bryant University’s College of Business in partnership with the Chafee Center for International Business and Ocean State 2026

December 9

In today’s hyperconnected global marketplace, cultural literacy has emerged as a strategic business asset—not a “soft skill,” but a measurable driver of innovation, market expansion, customer trust, and bottom-line performance. Research increasingly shows that organizations with strong cultural competence enjoy higher profitability, stronger global partnerships, and more resilient international operations.

To explore this critical shift, the Bryant University College of Business, in collaboration with the Chafee Center for International Business and Ocean State 2026, is convening a dynamic group of Rhode Island leaders from academia, government, nonprofits, and the private sector. Together, they will examine how cultural literacy shapes global strategy—and why Rhode Island businesses must leverage it to compete on the world stage.

Special Context for Rhode Island

With Rhode Island preparing to play a host role in the 2026 World Cup, this moment offers a powerful opportunity to highlight the state’s global readiness.

Hear from Liz Tanner, Executive Director of Ocean State 2026, who will provide an update on FIFA 2026 and statewide efforts to leverage the World Cup for economic, cultural, and international business impact.

Farouk CEO RI Hospitality Association will share how the hospitality sector is investing in cultural literacy to enhance visitor experience, strengthen workforce capability, and deliver exceptional outcomes during this once-in-a-generation global event.
