About the event

Adoption Event 2
Thank you for your participation in this adoption day. It is a great opportunity for your foster to find their forever home and for you to meet other NQAR volunteers. Here are some guidelines to help you prepare for a successful and safe adoption day.
What to wear:
Clean, tidy clothes, no tee-shirts/caps etc with slogans/images that could cause offence.
NQAR shirt if you have one. NQAR vests will be available on the day.
Closed in shoes – this is a safety requirement
Dogs must be wearing a yellow ‘adopt me’ collar or vest with NQAR tag*
Dogs must be on a yellow ‘adopt me’ lead with halti*
*Adopt me gear and haltis will be available on the day if you don’t already have them.
When you arrive:
Come and find one of the coordinators, put on a name tag and collect any gear you need.
Walk your dog around to let them become familiar with their surroundings.
Things to be aware of:
Children - Please keep a close eye on your dog with children. It’s surprising how nonchalant people can be with their children and unknown dogs. If you feel your dog is nervous, and might be eyeballing a child please walk away and remove your dog from the situation.
Other dogs – Please keep your dog a safe distance from other fosters and keep a close eye on them if approached by community members with dogs. If you feel your dog is nervous and might be eyeballing another dog please walk away and remove your dog from the situation.
Time out – if your dog is becoming tired and needs a break please feel free to take them from the public for a rest.
What not to do:
Do not leave your dog in the care of anyone other than a clearly identified NQAR volunteer.
Do not leave your dog in the care of a child under the age of 16 years (even if the child is familiar with the dog)
Adoptions:
Any adoption enquiries need to be directed to one of the Coordinators.
Adoptions will not be first in best dressed, however if you meet someone who you think is great for your foster, they can certainly go through the process of completing the adoption application.
If there are no concerns, we can organise the home check and potentially drop the dog off at the same time - we can provide you with bank details and they can make the deposit in front of you.
If you have any concerns, we can organise the home check without taking the dog. If you have concerns about someone wanting to adopt, or you just don't think they are the right fit, please let us know.
If you are thinking about adopting your foster please let us know BEFORE adoption day. It is too late to change your mind once your dog has had a meet and greet.
