The Power of Retrospection: A Creative Writing Workshop

Join PMRCAA Resident Writer Bella Bravo in this writing workshop to explore place and the power of retrospection. Looking back expands your view and reveals why your narrator is choosing to tell their story, join us in learning to tell yours!

Workshop Highlights:

Exploring Place in Retrospect: Bella will guide participants through examining the effects of climate change through memory and place using unique writing exercises.

Learning from Past Writers: Attendees will examine how perspective functions in fiction and nonfictional writings from those including V.V. Ganeshananthan, Isabella Hammad, Lauren Markham, Carrie Lowry Schuettpeiz, and Jesmyn Ward.

Create and Share: Participants will generate writings of their own and have the opportunity to share their work with other attendees. Everyone will walk away from this workshop with the beginning of a new story or essay.

All skill levels welcome.

All materials will be supplied.

About the Instructor:

Bella Bravo is a fiction writer living in Seattle. Their stories have appeared in NY Tyrant and Driftless Magazine. They earned a MFA at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, where they received the August Derleth Creative Writing Prize. Their work has been supported by the Sewanee Writers’ Conference and Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts.
