𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻é𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 ⊶ 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗿 𝘅 𝗧𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗼𝘁
For this third event at Decoratelier, Matinée is happy to collaborate with the Brussels-based socio-cultural collective 𝗧𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗼𝘁. Tashattot, meaning “dispersion” in Arabic, brings together artists and cultural practitioners from the SWANA region who have been displaced or are currently navigating life in Europe.
On a personal level we, at Matinée, have been drawn more and more towards the avant-garde electro-acoustic sound of the SWANA region. We feel an intense purity and sincerity coming from this direction, playing with the conventions of what music can be, driven by a belief that music should come from the heart above anything else.
𝗦𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗠𝗼𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗮 talks about approaching distinct musical worlds and languages by bringing together musicians performing on Western and West Asian instruments with electronic arrangements and textures. Rather than force a rapprochement of these musical worlds through the instruments, and keenly aware of the weighty sonic histories they carry, Moussa proposes another way through which they can exist together in contemporary electronic composition.
Instead of focusing on conveying something beautiful, fun, or sad, it feels that it's primarily about conveying something real, whether it is beautiful or bitter, harmonious or dissonant, ...
