This was popular among another group, seeing fireworks from an above vantage point. This also allows us to use our off-road lights instead of being used as a fashion statement. This trail goes up CR-33, and then we will turn left to a trail called "Break In Mountain" that goes further up Kendall Mountain. This should provide enough of a vantage point to see the town of Silverton below.
We will meet at The Whistle Stop by 6:15 p.m. and leave promptly at 6:20 p.m. The OnX estimated trail ride one way is 3 hours. The fireworks start at 9:30 p.m. Once the show is over, we head back down. It will be late for those heading back to Durango. Remember, this event can be cancelled due to dry weather, cancelling the fireworks, or monsoonal weather making the trail impassible or making us lightning rods.
Do not forget to bring a lawn chair!
Disclaimers:
1. The Break In Mountain trail turns into a shelf road with a sheer drop-off. Those who are afraid of heights or think they are scared of heights will not like this trail, especially once we head down when it is dark.
1. We love seeing your furry companion, but understand that they should stay in your vehicle while we move. We are going to see fireworks too, so consider your options.
2. We use GMRS radios. Please bring one if you have one.
3. Trail rides can be of an undetermined length. They may run later or earlier than initially planned.
