Observe the Moon

Join NASA Solar System Ambassador M.J. Johnson for a special event celebrating International Observe the Moon Night! In the first part of this presentation, we will explore our nearest celestial neighbor, and the star of our show, the Moon, through the lens of today’s most exciting missions and discoveries. From NASA’s Artemis program preparing to return humans to the lunar surface, to international missions to map the lunar landscape and bring back samples from the Moon’s far side. Then we’ll dive into striking new findings that are revealing a world far more dynamic than we once thought, including evidence of ancient geological upheaval, and the ongoing search for water ice at its poles.

Then, we’ll journey onward to Europa, the intriguing icy moon of Jupiter. We’ll follow its story from Galileo to the Europa Clipper mission, which launched last year to study its hidden ocean and assess its potential for life.

After the talk, weather permitting, we’ll step outside to observe the Moon up close through telescopes!

This non-technical presentation is appropriate for all ages and includes time for audience Q&A.
