What is gogumi (tea blending) and why is blended tea significant to Shizuoka?
Gogumi is the art of blending Japanese tea carried out by professionals. This technique goes beyond simply mixing tea leaves; it enhances the value of the final product. It requires the ability to assess the tea's characteristics and the creativity to envision the perfect blend. Under the instruction of a professional tea blender, you will learn to be able to appraise different tea leaves and create your own original blend.
1.Lecture on Blending
Learn the basics of gogumi (blending) from a professional tea blender.
2.Tea Appraisal
Appraise the appearance and water quality of the tea using professional tools.Appearance: Appraise the color, shape, and aroma of the tea leaves. Water quality: Pour hot water to evaluate color, taste, aroma,sediment, and more.
3.Creative Blending
Select multiple tea varieties for blending and determine their mixing ratios. Use your creativity to craft a unique blend, envisioning the final flavor as you mix.
4.Take-Home Set
Take home your one-of-a-kind, original tea blend, along with the popular Mixcha Takumi Kit (winner of the 2011 World Green Tea Contest Gold Medal). This kit will allow you to create your own blends at home, using the techniques you've learned in the workshop.

Details: Lecture and blending (includes blended tea and blending kit)
Duration: About 40 minutes per session
Basic fee: JPY 5,500 per person (for groups of 2 to 10 people)
