Introduction to Michelangelo: Where to Begin?

Join Dr. Michael Kemling for more lectures on Renaissance Art! On February 18, 1564, Michelangelo died just short of his 89 th birthday. Over the course of his artistic career, Michelangelo worked under the patronage of nine different popes. That in itself is a lot to unpack. This lecture introduces the single greatest artist to have lived by focusing on the early part of his career up to 1512; by which Michelangelo had already completed the Bacchus, the Roman Pietà, the David, and the Sistine Chapel ceiling. Had the artist died at that point - he was 37 years old - in his career, we would still be celebrating both his social and artistic contributions.
