Youth Sketchbook Series-Join for One or all Six!
In this six-week series, young artists will dive into the creative world of sketchbooks—making, exploring, and filling pages with a variety of techniques. While all ages will learn together in the same class, each activity will include two levels of guidance and challenges to ensure projects are age-appropriate and engaging for both younger and older students.
Week 1: Create Your Own Sketchbook
Students will design their covers, stitch their bindings, and assemble a one-of-a-kind sketchbook that they’ll use throughout the series.
Week 2: Watercolor Exploration
With fun prompts and mini-lessons, students will experiment with washes, layering, and playful techniques in watercolor.
Week 3: Pop-Up Pages
Create interactive sketchbook spreads by designing a scene, coloring or painting it, and adding pop-up elements for a 3-D effect.
Week 4: Mixed Media Collage
Layer papers, textures, and drawings, then enhance the pages with embroidery stitches and bead embellishments.
Week 5: Printmaking
Learn to carve a simple printing block and make repeat patterns, plus explore gelli printing for spontaneous, textured pages.
Week 6: Gouache Exploration
Experiment with bold colors and painterly effects using gouache, with prompts and short lessons to guide the process.
By the end of the series, every student will have a rich, personalized sketchbook full of their explorations, ideas, and finished pages—a keepsake of their creative journey.
