Help Repair/Replace Fencing in Logan Valley – 5-Day Volunteer Opportunity!
Join us for a multi-day restoration project supporting bull trout and beaver habitat in one of Oregon’s most scenic valleys - at the headwaters of the Malheur River!
Dates: September 3-7, 2025
Difficulty level: Moderate–High (physical labor, uneven terrain, remote location)
Itinerary:
Volunteers are welcome to join for one or two days, or camp with us for the full week! Work hours will be approximately 9 AM – 5 PM each day.
Carpool from Think Wild in Bend or meet us onsite (20 miles east of Seneca, OR)
Tasks: Help repair and install wildlife-friendly fencing to support native trout recovery and improve riparian habitat to support the return of beaver. Tasks will include removing or repairing the old barbed-wire fence and carrying and staging fencing materials across meadows and creeks. Your hands-on work will help reduce livestock pressure on sensitive riparian areas and ensure restoration efforts remain successful.
What You'll Need: A positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and a collaborative mindset. Plan to bring clothes and food to keep you comfortable throughout the day, as well as camping equipment if you aim to camp. There are no bathrooms on-site.
About the Project: This project is part of a broader effort funded by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to restore bull trout habitat and support future beaver presence in the Upper Malheur watershed. Think Wild, the Burns Paiute Tribe, ONDA, USFS, and Lomakatsi Restoration Project are all collaborating to improve stream and wetland conditions across this culturally and ecologically important landscape.
Volunteers will be an essential part of this project and will support works already initiated by the Tribe. We will learn about and discuss beaver, Bull trout, endemic plants, wildlife habitat, barriers to habitat connectivity, and riparian restoration.
