Cheese Making Basics at Whispering Pines Dairy
Ever wanted to make your own cheese but didn’t know where to start? This class is built for anyone who loves good food, wants to understand where it comes from, and is ready to get their hands in the curds. Whether you are a foodie, a homesteader in training, or just looking for a unique day out with family or friends, this experience is for you.
We will begin with a guided tour of our working creamery. You will step behind the scenes and see the molds, methods, and equipment that transform fresh milk into delicious cheese. Along the way, you will discover the wide range of products we craft right here on the farm.
Next comes the fun part: the process of making cheese. With step-by-step instruction, you will learn the process from start to finish while following along with a recipe you can take home and repeat in your own kitchen. Every participant leaves with a 1/2 pound of fresh soft cheese to enjoy.
To round out the day, you will have the chance to purchase farm-fresh milk and cheese-making supplies. Because it is the end of milking season and quantities are limited, we recommend placing orders in advance. Our farm store will also be open with cheeses, meats, yogurts, and handmade wool products for you to explore.
This is more than a class. It is a chance to slow down, learn an age-old skill, and connect with food in a way you will never get from the grocery store. Come ready to roll up your sleeves, taste something fresh, and leave with new skills and new friends.
Info: We will start with a tour of the cheese making facility, see all the different molds and methods for making cheese as well as an overview of all the products made onsite. We will work on some cheese and review the take home recipe. You will receive a pound of soft cheese to take with you. Options for purchasing fresh milk and cheese making supplies- it might be best to order in advance as its the end of the milking season and supplies are limited. The store will be open after class.
