Countries throughout the Indo-Pacific are increasingly investing in renewable energy sources as a key means to meet growing energy demands while also reducing greenhouse gas emissions. To integrate renewable energy into domestic energy supplies, the development of efficient energy storage technologies—such as batteries and hydrogen—is critical. Both batteries and hydrogen enable the efficient utilization of intermittent renewable energy sources by storing energy during times of high generation and providing energy during periods of low generation and high demand. These capabilities not only accelerate the integration of renewables into domestic energy grids but also enhance grid stability and flexibility. However, successful adoption of these technologies will not be easy, as it faces numerous political, infrastructural, and technical challenges.
Please join The National Bureau of Asian Research (NBR) and the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) on Tuesday, September 23, in Jakarta, Indonesia from 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. for an in-person conference bringing together high-level experts from across the Indo-Pacific to examine the role of battery and hydrogen technologies in contributing to successful energy transitions in the region.
