🥾 9 miles 🥾 Leisurely 🥾 Leader: Rachel 🥾
This is a leisurely 9 mile walk in open countryside. Starting at The Fox Inn at Thorpe Willoughby we walk towards Selby across open fields, reaching Flaxley Road and walk through the town passing Selby Abbey, founded 1069.
We continue through the town and along the riverside to Selby Lock to join the towpath at Selby Canal. Here we will stop for lunch, then follow along the towpath for 3 miles. At Burton Hall Bridge we then head towards Selby Golf Club, crossing the A63, then skirting the edge of Brayton Barff Nature Reserve, before ending back at Thorpe Willoughby.
🅿️ On-street parking around the village green on Fox Lane and Londesborough Grove – please car-share where possible, and park with consideration for local residents
🚌 164 bus from Selby at 10:05 towards Leeds, arrives Thorpe Willoughby at 10:23 – connections from York (415 bus at 08:55), Leeds (train at 09:26) and Hull (09:15) – regular return buses every hour – if you are coming by bus, please let the walk leader know beforehand so we can wait for you if the bus is late
🐶 Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on a lead at all times
🥪 You will need to bring a packed lunch
🚻 There are public toilets in Selby, about half-way round the walk (20p charge)
🍺 After the walk, we can head to the pub for a drink
🧢 This route is exposed with relatively little shade or shelter, so please be suitably prepared for the weather conditions
