Community Cleanup Set for September 20!
All residents of Pettis County will have the opportunity to dispose of unwanted items and recycle materials during a countywide Community Cleanup event on Saturday, Sept. 20. The event will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sedalia Materials Management Facility, located at 27882 Highway U.
Organizers stress that the cleanup is open to residents only; materials from commercial businesses will not be accepted. Items eligible for drop-off include furniture, clothing, electronic scrap, bulk debris, and up to two appliances per home. Appliances containing Freon, such as refrigerators and window units, will not be accepted.
Tires will also be collected at a rate of $2 per tire for up to four tires per home, with each additional tire costing $5. All tires must be free of rims. Yard waste will not be accepted.
Household Hazardous Waste (HHW), such as paint, chemicals, or batteries, will not be collected during this cleanup. Residents needing to dispose of HHW are encouraged to visit moswmd-f.com/recycling-disposal-information for drop-off locations.
In addition to disposal, a Reuse Swap Area will be available for residents to exchange gently used items such as furniture and appliances, providing an opportunity for materials to find a second life.
The event is sponsored by the City of Sedalia, Pettis County Commission, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Johnson County, West Central Missouri Solid Waste Management District, and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
