Join us for a one-hour reprise of NSUMC’s Compassion Camp — now with a science twist!
Our summer Compassion Camp has been growing over the last three summers, and in the fall we love to offer a mini version to keep the excitement and learning thriving. This year’s 2025 session will be held on Sunday, September 21st at 11 AM, immediately following Sunday School.
NSUMC's mid-year mini-camp will keep the kindness, mindfulness, and curiosity flowing as families explore hands-on science activities that spark wonder — all while helping us see God’s amazing world in new ways. Together, we’ll nurture hearts and minds, grow our faith, and build essential skills like mindfulness and self-regulation.
Whether it’s your first time or you’re returning for more, come experience how Compassion Camp — now with a splash of science — can help your whole family grow in faith, love, and discovery!
Here’s What to Expect during this Hour of Compassion:
YOGA: For the first 20 minutes, families will come together to experience the joy and calm of yoga. It’s a gentle way to slow down, tune into your body, and release the busyness and anxiety of daily life.
(Families: Please bring a yoga mat or a beach towel for each person participating.)
MINDFULNESS: Next, we’ll dive into 20 minutes of mindfulness activities, including creative journal prompts, fun breathing exercises, and soothing scripture verses that bring calm and reflection.
Science: In the final 20 minutes, the kids will be challenged with science experiments and object lessons about resilience.
FOR PARENTS: While children enjoy the Mini-Camp, parents are invited to a special one-hour workshop led by Dr. Scott Herrmann, a licensed psychologist in Arizona, California, and Colorado, and double board-certified in Clinical Child/Adolescent Psychology and Police/Public Safety Psychology. Dr. Herrmann has over three decades of experience as a clinician, researcher, and university teacher, and is passionate about helping children and families thrive. He will lead a practical and encouraging session titled: “The Power of Positive Reinforcement: What Every Parent Needs to Know.”
