A lifelong resident of the Puget Sound region in Washington state, Friday creates contemporary works that draw from cultural themes and employ modern processes, while maintaining foundational Native American influences. Over the past two decades, he has honed his skills working with notable Seattle-based artists, including Dale Chihuly, Preston Singletary and Dan Marioni. He now operates his own independent studio.
“Creativity was fostered in me by my family from an early age,” Friday said. “Living without TV and knowing our rich cultural heritage… meant that making things with our hands was a regular activity. I typically work with simple themes and forms, and often employ subtle silhouettes when making my totems. It is a pleasure seeing inanimate objects taking on lives of their own.”
