About the event

Dante Lecture Series: Casanova ~ Man or Myth?
Casanova: Man or Myth?

From seducer of nuns to notches on a bedpost, Casanova has the reputation as a ladies man. But that is far from the whole story. In actuality, he was an author, translator, mathematician, law
secretary, financier, spy, diplomat, and theater impresario. Describing carriage rides, hot chocolate, sharing beds at inns, carrying letters of introduction, playing faro, or buying ladies'
gloves, he also wrote one of the most valuable descriptions of European travel and daily life in the eighteenth century. Join Kathleen González, author of books about Casanova in Venice and
in Rome and organizer of a symposium on Casanova, to unravel the man from the myths about him.

Author biography:
Kathleen Ann González has independently published seven books, her first being Free Gondola Ride about Venice’s gondoliers, and the most recent being Flirting with Fortune: Casanova in Rome. She also has essays in anthologies and periodicals, and three of her books have been published in Italy, translated in multiple languages. As an English teacher first at Santa Teresa High School and now at the Woodside Priory School, she has won various awards and recognition for her work. Passionate about travel, González finds any excuse to hop on an airplane, particularly to Venice. Please visit www.KathleenAnnGonzalez.com for details about her work or follow her blog at www.seductivevenice.wordpress.com.
