Into The Abstract: A Playful Journey Through Art History and Materials
This series invites you to dive into the rich and ever-evolving world of abstract art, where history meets experimentation. Each week introduces a groundbreaking artist or movement—ranging from Abstract Expressionism and Cubism to Surrealism and Neo-Dada—providing historical context and sparking conversation about how and why artists broke away from traditional representation.
After the history lesson, students will jump into the studio, engaging with a wide variety of materials and playful processes inspired by that week’s artist. From drip painting in the spirit of Jackson Pollock to squeegee techniques like Gerhard Richter, from clay explorations inspired by Henry Moore to the imaginative surrealist forms of Joan Miró, participants will discover new ways of making while gaining confidence in their own creative voice.
This class is equal parts art history and hands-on experimentation. No previous experience is required—just curiosity and a willingness to try. Each session emphasizes discovery, play, and personal expression, ensuring that every student leaves with both new knowledge and a one-of-a-kind artwork of their own.
