Exhibition Unseen Encounters

This exhibition features paintings by Annette Splinter that can suddenly bring you face to face even though you've never met before. Will this encounter escalate into the courage to seek rapprochement or will you immediately devour each other skin and all?

Guest artist Marianne Fontein presents sculptures of reptiles. Reptiles often have a terrifying and elusive quality due to their way of moving and their shiny smooth scaled skin. Their patterns and colours sometimes make them difficult to spot or very striking. Beware!

Guest artist Anton Vrede presents his painted signs: animals known in various legends as "tricksters" who cunningly defied prevailing social norms. Throughout history tricksters have been figures with whom the marginalized and oppressed could identify and draw hope.

Opening on Sunday October 19th at 3:30 PM by Jan van den Enk (art collector). Marieke van Leeuwen actress poet director and former city poet of Dordrecht will read her poem "Het Dier" (The Animal).

On Sunday October 26th at 3:30 PM artist Marianne Fontein will talk about her work.

Final event on Sunday November 9th at 3:30 PM. Marieke van Leeuwen along with musician JBR and friends will read "LXXIX" by Rabindranath Tagore. This will be followed by a closing conversation between the artists and Karin Voogd who has maintained a painterly friendship with Annette for forty years. Dore Engbersen (Karin's son) will add flavour and shape to the displayed "Onmoetingen" (Encounters) accompanied by drinks.
