Circle Weaving with Chiaki O'Brien

Building upon Gammelgården Museum's 2024 exhibit, "Games, Toys, and Pastimes of the Mid- to Late-1800s" exhibit, we are offering classes and workshops that introduce people to a variety of activities they can do in their spare time. Our goal is to give people the skills, knowledge, and inspiration to move away from technology and do interesting and engaging activities.

Early immigrants and settlers filled their spare time with many types of arts, crafts, and handiwork. This class - although not a historic activity - is a fun and creative way to spend one's time.

Chiaki O'Brien will lead students in circle weaving, also known as circular weaving or round weaving.

You can use an embroidery hoop as a loom and weave in a circular direction after setting up warp strings on a loom to make whatever you’d like such as a wall decoration, a pin or a coaster.

The instructor will have a variety of materials for you to choose from. You can make your own design using as many colors and textures you like.
