Join Sharon Butala for the launch of How to Breathe Water (Freehand Books), with guest host Shawn Mooney (@shawnbreathesbooks).
This event will be held live in the Travel Alcove and also available as a simultaneous YouTube stream.
A road trip through the prairies prompts acclaimed writer Sharon Butala to unearth the stories of the natural world around her, and at the same time revisit her own personal histories. Taking stock of the people and places she has lost and left behind brings her to the ultimate confrontation – with mortality – which she explores with uncommon wisdom and frankness. Butala’s most intimate work to date, How to Breathe Water is a love letter to the lands and waters of the prairies and a stirring exploration of the places and moments that mark and mold our lives.
Sharon Butala, an Officer of the Order of Canada, is the award-winning author of twenty three books of fiction and nonfiction and five produced plays. She is a three-time finalist for the Governor General’s Literary Award, and is a recipient of the Glengarry Book Award, the Marian Engel Award, the Saskatchewan Order of Merit, the Cheryl and Henry Kloppenburg Award for Literary Excellence, the City of Calgary W.O. Mitchell Book Prize, and three honourary doctorates. She lives in Saskatoon.
