Fireside with Lyndon: Plains Cree Syllabics

Join us for Fireside with Lyndon to learn from community experts who will highlight the history and present-day role of Plains Cree syllabics.

One of the ways to teach is known as Syllabics. Syllabics was created by the missionaries as a way to teach Indigenous people the bible. In southern Plains Cree, there are 67 symbols and each symbol represents a sound. When the symbols are written together, words in the language can be spoken.

On September 25 at 7 PM, please join us at Remai Modern for another Fireside with Lyndon where we will be joined by special guest Audrey Ben.

Fireside with Lyndon is free to attend and all are welcome! Fireside with Lyndon is presented by SaskEnergy.

Bio: Audrey Ben

Audrey Ben is from Makwa Sahghaiehcan First Nation (Loon Lake) in Treaty 6. She is a mother of nine, a grandmother and a great-grandmother. She has an educational background in education and has been a teacher for many years.

Presently, Audrey teaches Nehiyawewin (Plains Cree language) at Wahkotohwin School in Saskatoon.
