Ballet of the Pink Meanie — The Untold Story

One image. Two days in the water. A once-in-a-lifetime encounter.

In September 2022, while Hurricane Ian’s swell rolled through the Gulf of Mexico, artist Jonah Allen came face-to-face with a creature most people fear — the rare Pink Meanie jellyfish.

What happened next became one of the most celebrated works of his career. Over the course of two days, Jonah photographed these ethereal beings in crystal-clear Gulf waters — their 30-foot tentacles flowing like silk, surrounded by schools of fish. By the third day, they were gone, never to be seen in such abundance again.

The result was Ballet of the Pink Meanie — a sold-out edition that debuted at the Digital Graffiti Festival and later at Jonah Allen Gallery’s grand opening, captivating audiences and collectors alike.

Now, for the first time ever, Jonah is releasing the full 17-piece series — each a rare glimpse into this extraordinary underwater ballet. While the complete collection will be available to view and acquire online, one original work will be physically on display in the gallery during this special event.
