Step into the world of traditional Yoruba artistry in this unforgettable 2.5-day intensive workshop with internationally renowned Indigo Master Gasali Adeyemo. Known for his vibrant storytelling through cloth, Gasali brings the ancient technique of adire alabela—Yoruba wax-resist batik—to life in an intimate and immersive experience at Artful Soul Creative Experiences.
We’ll kick off the weekend with a wine & cheese welcome reception on Friday, September 12, 6–9PM. Get to know the artist, preview what’s to come, and enjoy a powerful film on indigo dyeing traditions and the deeper cultural meanings behind Gasali’s intricate designs.
Over the course of the workshop, you’ll:
Learn authentic batik techniques using molten wax and rich organic dyes, including the famed Nigerian indigo
Design freehand, the way it's done in Yoruba communities—no stencils, just your creativity guided by a master
Work with additional vibrant dyes like purple, red, and green
Create your own stunning, wearable art on cotton or silk fabric
Whether you're new to textile arts or looking to deepen your practice, this is a rare chance to learn directly from one of Nigeria’s living treasures in a small group setting.
What to Bring:
2 yards of pre-washed, 100% cotton or pure silk fabric
Optional items to dye: cotton tote bags, silk scarves, or shawls
Please no T-shirts, and wear comfy clothes you don’t mind staining
