Fox and Folk Sessions-
Fox and Friends: Todd and the Fox & Lumpy
Friday, September 26 | 8–10 PM
Rufina Taproom | Free | All Ages
Join us for a high-energy night of Norteño Mountain Folk Funk and ska‑infused pop, indie, and rock as Todd and the Fox teams up with Lumpy for an evening of music and collaboration.
Todd and the Fox is equal parts rollicking, rolling, playful animal spirit and tooth‑and‑claw hammer mountain‑minor backwoods predator. With electric banjo, lap steel, guitar, bass, and drums, they deliver a spirited blend of family‑friendly songs about rattlesnakes, coyotes, a good night’s sleep, fatherhood, mindfulness, and funky worms—plus sardonic ditties and murder ballads about love, misadventure, history, and the human spirit. The band—brainchild of Todd Eric Lovato and featuring multi‑instrumentalists Erik Sawyer, Brian Nelson, and Bryan Highhill—has taken its unique New Mexican electronic folk sound throughout the Southwest and as far as South Korea, and recently released a compilation EP of kids’ songs.
Lumpy is the long‑running project of Bryan Highhill—trumpeter, keyboardist, songwriter, and producer. Started in Santa Fe in 2008, Lumpy blends ska, pop, indie, rock, and more into an original sound that’s both catchy and unconventional. After years in the Minneapolis music scene touring and recording with Sonny Knight and the Lakers, Hennepin County Millionaires Club, Black Market Brass, and PaviElle, Bryan reignited Lumpy with a full‑length album in 2020 and formed a live band in 2022. Their 2024 release won Lumpy its second New Mexico Music Award, following six albums, a stack of demos and EPs, and wins for Best Pop Album (2012) and Best Rock Album (2025). Now based in Albuquerque, Lumpy’s current Southwest lineup is bringing fresh energy to live shows across New Mexico.
