Cosmos and Coffee is a new community event series that brings astronomers and neighbors together over curiosity, conversation, and coffee.
For this first gathering, astronomer, educator, and Santa Fe Springs native Dr. Francisco Mercado will guide us through a short, visual talk on what galaxies can teach us about community. Just like people, galaxies don’t evolve in isolation. Some grow up quietly on their own, while others are shaped by bustling cosmic neighborhoods full of nearby stars, gas, and gravitational tugs. In this talk, we’ll explore how a galaxy’s surroundings help shape its story, and how the universe reminds us that environment matters.
This will be a relaxed and welcoming event. There are no slides full of jargon, just beautiful visuals and a conversation about how the universe works.
Coffee will be served by Angeles Coffee, a local small business and co-founder of the Cosmos and Coffee initiative.
No science background is needed. All are welcome. Just bring your curiosity.
Tickets for Cosmos and Coffee: A Community Conversation About the Universe can be booked here.
