About Mehrgan
Mehrgan is an ancient Persian festival that has been celebrated for thousands of years. Traditionally, it honors Mehr (or Mithra), the Zoroastrian deity associated with love, friendship, loyalty, and the sun.
Mehrgan is celebrated in autumn, typically around the time of the harvest, as a festival of gratitude, abundance, and community. Historically, it was a time for:
Giving thanks for the harvest and the blessings of life
Strengthening bonds between family, friends, and neighbors
Celebrating love and friendship through gatherings, music, and feasts
Cultural rituals like setting a festive table with seasonal fruits, nuts, and sweets
Like Nowruz (the Persian New Year in spring), Mehrgan is a cultural and spiritual celebration, but it focuses on the themes of harvest, gratitude, and the warmth of human connection rather than renewal and beginnings.
