Join the Salt Lake Climbers Alliance and the Utah Historical Society for a 1.5-hour interpretive hiking tour of the Alpenbock Loop in Little Cottonwood Canyonβthe first recreational climbing area in the U.S. listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This 1.5 mile loop explores the roots of climbing in the Wasatch, honoring the pioneering climbers of the 1960s and the conservation values and climbing culture that continue to define the canyon today.
Meeting Location: π© LCC Park & Ride β 4385 Little Cottonwood Canyon Rd, Sandy, UT 84092 (We will depart near the restroom area.)
What to Know Before You Go
Length: ~1.5 miles
Difficulty: Moderate due to rocky terrain; A shorter modified version of this tour will be offered on October 18th
Not recommended for those with balance issues, leg injuries, or very young children
Bring: Water, sun protection, clothing layers
Wear: Closed-toe shoes with good rubber soles and long pants (for ticks & poison ivy)
Wildlife caution: Be aware of rattlesnakes, ticks, and uneven footing
Restroom reminder: Please use facilities beforehand and remember to secure valuables
