Join us for an interactive, two-part community gathering that celebrates both language and cultural creativity. We’ll begin with small-group guided discussions focused on feeling confident and comfortable with your proficiency in Puerto Rican Spanish—whether you’re fluent, learning, or reconnecting. This is a safe space to share experiences, explore identity through language, and support one another in embracing all the ways we express ourselves.
In the second part of the session, we’ll shift into a creative cultural dialogue about blending three iconic Puerto Rican traditions—Cabezudos, Vejigantes and Gigantón—into one new, community-created character: el Vejigantón. Together, we’ll explore what each figure represents, how they’ve evolved, and how we might imagine a unified tradition that speaks to today’s Puerto Rican experience. Through this collaborative conversation, we’ll spark ideas for building a living tradition—one that honors heritage while inviting innovation.
Come share your story, your voice, and your imagination. All are welcome—language learners, culture keepers, artists, and curious minds alike.
This event is for the entire family. Children are free and the adult entrance fee is $20 as a fundraiser for the soft-opening of the Cultura Plenera Cultural Center in Brunswick, Maryland.
Food and drinks will be available for purchase.
