Madame Curry! Our dinner on Friday, 7 November 2025 is fully booked!
It all starts with a fleeting thoughtā¦itās not always crystal clear and if Iām not paying attention, I might just miss it. It sometimes can be described as a wish or longing and with each wish or thought, a seed is sown and a concept starts to percolate in my busy mind.
Whatās most beautiful about the space I find myself in is Iām not bound to any culinary path. I almost daily indulge my culinary passions with some days focusing on my range of pies, and others crafting and creating magnificent cakesā¦thereās food cooked on the fire and the creation of spices blends and aromatic masala.
We relaunched the cooking classes this year and what I found most surprising was the number of guests who return just to savour the meals prepared. The snacks are served straight from the pan to plate, the main courses like lamb curry are piping hot with the potatoes melting in complete surrender and the rotiā¦I could go on about the roti. They have to be straight from the thava to the plate. I donāt just serve food, I put feelings on a plate and itās almost like time travel taking you back to the kitchens of your childhood where you could hear the shuffle of a sari, the sound of coarse salt being scooped out a jar with loving fingers, the creaking of the cupboard as it opened and closed and the aroma was simply heavenly. We didnāt just eat food, we ate love that was the magic of it.
While there are plenty of Indian restaurants and Durban style diners and takeaways, Iāve come to understand that itās not about food, itās about the experience and I am delighted to announce the launch of my dinner club, Madame Curry. We will be curating menus and creating feasts served in a home where guests get to enjoy old school Durban Indian warmth and hospitality so if youāre looking for love, curry and warmth this Winter, this is just the night out for you! Thereās story telling taking you through the origins of dishes, my spice adventures and also tales of the misadventures and highs and lows of
curryāpreneur life.
āDear Durbanā is our first theme and just seems to be the perfect starting point since for me, my curry roads will always lead back to my hometown.
