Video artist ACVilla and keyboardist/vocalist Thollem McDonas are returning to their old stomping grounds, bringing two audio/visual pieces to Works/San José: Stories About People & Everyone Else and Obstacle Illusion. This fall they are touring with stories they have collected over years of travel, including ones from just the other day, retelling them through miniature films and live music. These are audio/visual sneak peeks into otherwise unobserved events that are unfolding at the same time as ours, creating seconds- or minutes-long bonds that change our day whether we notice them or not. With an eye on these connections, ACVilla highlights the moments with an analog sensibility using digital equipment that fits into her nomadic lifestyle. Thollem’s live soundtrack draws on his infinite influences to create a sonic soundscape that is as equally enlightening as it is entertaining. Stories About People & Everyone Else is exactly that, told through two artists at the center of a world on the edge.
Obstacle Illusion is conjured by ACVilla’s unique projections paired with Thollem’s original techniques and sounds. Through multiple overlaying of live sonic and visual stimuli, the duo creates an environment that hints at subconscious thoughts and hidden memories.
