6M Arts
1008 Mission street, San Francisco, United States
Opening reception for a solo show called the 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝, featuring the vibrant, synesthetic, psychedelic work of 𝐌𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐞𝐥 𝐑𝐢𝐨𝐬, a longtime artist emeritus of San Francisco!
Free tamales, wine, and music!
From kickstarting the Mission mural movement in the 70s, to making album cover art for Carlos Santana, to Fillmore posters and grandiose tapestries, Michael Rios has been a monumental talent living at the intersection of music and visual art. As someone who experiences synesthesia, Michael's sense of color is triggered by sound, a condition tangibly felt in his saturated canvases, posters and fabrics.
As an artist in residence for TODCO (the housing nonprofit that funds 6M Arts), he has produced work showcasing life and culture in the South of Market communities, restored murals, and created art installations at Alice Street Gardens, a community garden for residents of the neighborhood.
We are very proud to feature him for our first solo show at 6M!
