The workshop starts with a short discussion on the historical background and cultural roots of African dance, focusing on Afrobeat’s evolution and influence. We'll move into a guided warm-up, step breakdowns with technique and name explanations, and exercises to train rhythm and musicality. The second half of class is dedicated to learning choreography, dancing full out, and ending with community connection and personal feedback.
My goal is to share the joy, richness, and cultural power of Afrobeat while helping dancers feel confident and connected to the rhythm. I want to create a space that celebrates movement, builds skills in technique and musicality, and honors the history behind the steps. This workshop is also a chance for dancers from all backgrounds to grow together and express themselves.
Students will gain a deeper understanding of Afrobeat as both a dance and cultural expression. They'll leave with stronger musicality, body awareness, new steps in their toolbox, and a choreographed combo they can feel proud of. Most importantly, they’ll leave feeling empowered, energized, and part of a growing global community of Afro dance lovers.
Afrobeat is a high-energy, joyful style that blends traditional African movement with modern influence from artists like Burna Boy, Rema, Wizkid, BM, and more. This class is all about full-body expression, rhythm, and fun—whether you’re a beginner or experienced dancer, you’ll be challenged, celebrated, and inspired. Come ready to move, sweat, and vibe!
