Reckoning with Redistricting: Breaking Down Prop 50

San Francisco, we find ourselves in the midst of another election, this time in response to the attempts from Donald Trump and National Republicans to rig the 2026 elections before the first ballot is even cast. Governor Newsom and California Democrats in the state legislature placed Proposition 50 on the ballot to give California a chance to fight back.

We're gathering together a panel of individuals to go over the course of events that brought us to this point, and what is at stake at this November 4th special election.

Joining us in discussion is:

Nancy Tung, Chair of the San Francisco Democratic Party

Catherine Stefani, Member of the California State Legislature representing western San Francisco and the northwest corner of San Mateo County.

Matt Coles, Professor of Constitutional law at UC Law, San Francisco

The panel will be moderated by Politico's Dustin Gardiner, who has been closely covering statewide political matters in California for over 7 years and has been a practicing journalist for 17 years.

In addition to coming and learning about Proposition 50, there will also be opportunities to connect with some of San Francisco’s Democratic clubs, the San Francisco Democratic Party, and of course, the Prop 50 campaign itself.

Please note: You will need to bring a government issued ID in order to be able to enter the UC Law San Francisco building.

Doors open at 5:00 pm. The panel will begins promptly at 6:00 pm. Seating in the main auditorium is first come, first serve. An overflow room will be established if we have more reservation requests available than there is capacity for.
