Hike Purisima Creek Redwoods Whittemore Gulch near Half Moon Bay

Gain incredible views of Half Moon Bay as we hike through the redwood groves of Purisima Creek and Whittemore Gulch!

This 9-mile loop takes place in Purisima Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve, a 3,400 acre preserve near Woodside in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Extensive logging in the nineteenth century decimated the landscape, removing old growth coastal redwoods up to 1,000 years old! But after a century of recovery, the second growth forests of Purisima Creek are no less stunning. And thanks to the $2 million gift from the Save the Redwoods League to establish the preserve, we now get to enjoy all that Purisima Creek has to offer: sweeping views of Half Moon Bay and the Pacific Ocean, the tumbling waters of the creek itself, and gorgeous coastal redwood habitat.
