2024 Bernhard Ott Am Berg Grüner Veltliner $26.94
Weingut Ott has been producing wine in Wagram since 1889 and is currently run by Bernhard Ott, the fourth generation of the family. He took over in 1993 at just 21 years old and immediately raised quality standards at the estate. A visit to Domaine de la Romanée-Conti in 2006 inspired him to convert to biodynamic viticulture.
Bernhard specializes in Grüner Veltliner, Austria’s flagship grape, which thrives in Wagram’s deep loess soils. “Am Berg” is a village-level bottling blended from multiple vineyard sites across Wagram. It is fermented in stainless steel, a practice Bernhard implemented as part of his early modernization of the winery.
2023 Jurtschitsch Heiligenstein Riesling $54.94
Alwin and Stefanie Jurtschitsch are a husband-and-wife team based in the Kamptal region of Austria. The estate is highly regarded for its commitment to organic farming and minimal-intervention winemaking, philosophies they believe are essential to expressing site and quality.
This Riesling comes from the famed Heiligenstein vineyard, composed of 270-million-year-old Permian desert sandstone with volcanic conglomerates not found elsewhere in Austria. Considered one of the country’s most exceptional sites for Riesling, Heiligenstein rises to 345 meters and features steep, south- and west-facing terraces across 36 hectares. The wine is aged in large wooden barrels in the estate’s 700-year-old natural cellar.
2022 Emmerich Knoll Smaragd Kreutles Grüner Veltliner $62.94
Emmerich Knoll is one of Austria’s most iconic producers. Established in 1825 in the Wachau region along the northern banks of the Danube, the estate remains family-owned and is known for producing powerful, age-worthy white wines.
Knoll is a member of Vinea Wachau Nobilis Districtus, an association formed in 1983 dedicated to quality, origin, and purity. Members must produce wines exclusively from Wachau and classify them according to ripeness levels: Steinfeder, Federspiel, and Smaragd. Smaragd represents the highest must weight and alcohol level while remaining dry. These wines are typically concentrated, structured, and built for long aging. Kreutles is one of Knoll’s prized vineyard sites.
2022 Lichtenberger-Gonzalez Flor de Pinot $33.94
Lichtenberger-Gonzalez is a husband-and-wife team who met while interning at a winery in California. They later returned to Martin Lichtenberger’s home region of Austria, working alongside respected producers while shaping the future of Martin’s family estate. Ariana Gonzalez, originally from Spain, lends her heritage to this wine—the word “Flor” meaning flower in Spanish.
The name also references the delicate handling of the wine, which is crafted as a light, chillable red. Their winemaking approach is traditional and hands-on, avoiding excessive technology and embracing time-honored methods.
2023 Geyerhof Stock Werk Zweigelt $25.94
Geyerhof is located in Kremstal, one of Austria’s premier wine regions. The family has over 400 years of winemaking history, and the estate itself is a 16th-century brick building with historic cellars beneath. Today, it is run by Ilse and her son Josef, who maintain exacting standards in both vineyard and cellar.
This is 100% Zweigelt, fermented in stainless steel to preserve freshness and purity. The fruit comes from younger vineyards in and around the village of Oberfucha, planted on granite and gravel soils. These cooler, northeast-facing sites are buffered by forests and grazing land for the family’s cattle, contributing to the wine’s lifted aromatics and vibrant structure.
2023 Trapl Blaufränkisch $26.94
Trapl was established by Johannes Trapl in Carnuntum, Austria. Johannes is a passionate and dynamic young winemaker who took over the winery from his parents and is helping change the reputation of Carnuntum. He interned in Napa Valley and made such an impression that he was offered a full-time position as an assistant winemaker. When he returned home to discuss it, his parents offered him full autonomy over the family’s half-hectare of vines to encourage him to stay.
He eventually expanded the vineyard holdings and set out to shift the region’s style, as Carnuntum was mostly known for big, bold, modern expressions of Zweigelt. He began planting Blaufränkisch and produced his first wine in 2004, winning “Varietal Wine of the Year” from Falstaff, Austria’s most prestigious wine magazine. His reputation grew for crafting lower-alcohol, lighter, and low-intervention styles of Blaufränkisch. He calls this “no nonsense added; the lower the alcohol in my wines, the more I can see the terroir.”
